Cabahanoce Plantation, a house claimed by the river, was the home of André Bienvenu Roman, who served as Governor of Louisiana from 1831 to 1835 and from 1839 to 1843, was Governor of Louisiana in 1845 and 1852, was a member of the Constitutional Convention in 1861, a member of the Secession Convention, and a member of the Peace Commission to Washington, D.C. for the Confederacy.
