Lansdowne Christian Church was created as a memorial to the men who fought to preserve the Union through the devotion of Civil War veteran Charles W. Hull and his wife, Mary A. Hull, who gave his land and the building for that purpose. The deed required that a memorial service called Grand Army Day be held in the church during the second week of each May, and that observance continues. The first service took place on May 14, 1905. Five months later, at another ceremony, the Grand Army of the Republic, the leading Union veterans' organization, presented three stained glass windows to the congregation. General Richard N. Bowerman, commander of the Department of Maryland, Grand Army of the Republic, contributed a window showing the likeness of the organization's membership badge, which is above the church altar. Two more stained glass windows at the rear of the building were dedicated to Dushane Post 3 of the Grand Army of the Republic and to Dushane Corps 3 of the Woman's Relief Corps. On Grand Army Days in the early 20th century, veterans came from Baltimore on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, paraded through the streets to the church, attended the service, ate dinner served by the church ladies, and then gathered in the picnic grove for an evening of stories and remembrance. In 1977, the church was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
