Bridger National Forest is the historic name for U.S. Forest Service land in western Wyoming now included in Bridger-Teton National Forest. Covering 1,736,075 acres, a little more than half of the combined forest, it includes all of the officially designated Bridger Wilderness. Established on July 1, 1911, from part of Bonneville National Forest, it underwent several administrative changes: transfer to Wyoming National Forest in 1923, restoration of the Bridger name in 1943, and merger with Teton National Forest in 1973. Though no longer a separate administrative unit, it remains a major geographic and historical part of the larger forest system.
