Alcove Spring, approximately 6 1/2 miles south on East River Road, was a campsite on the Oregon - California Trail named by the Reed Donner party of 1846. It is the burial site of Sarah Keyes of that party and was also used as early as 1820 by fur trappers and missionaries.
