Pony Express Home Station No. 1 was a Pony Express station of 1860-61, and its barn stands on the original site. Here Pony Express riders changed mounts as they carried the Overland Mail through 1966 miles of territory that is now eight states. Russell, Majors, and Waddell were the founders, owners, and operators of the Pony Express. The station was entered on the National Register of Historic Places on Apr. 2, 1973.
