On July 11, 1859, Mr. Halvor Olson offered this 1/2 acre of his land to be used as a cemetery for members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (Hauge Synod) in the Roche a Cree (Arkdale) settlement, while also allowing people of the community outside the congregation to use it as their burial place. The cemetery was to be ready for use by April 14, 1860. The poor were to be buried without charge, and a fee of $2.00 was asked for the burial of individuals who were not members of the church. On March 11, 1862, a vote called for electing a committee of 2 men to have charge of the cemetery, and Ole Arvold and Andrew Isaacs were elected. This was identified as the beginning of the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Association, now known as the Trinity Cemetery Association, which continues with approximately 10 members. With additional acreage given by Bert and Dolly Olson in 1954 and again by Donald and Carol Massen in 1981, the plot grew to five acres and is carefully tended each year by the Association.
