St. Simons Sound is a coastal waterway in Georgia between Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island. It is part of the route linking the Atlantic Ocean with the South Brunswick River and the port of Brunswick, giving it importance for regional navigation and access to the coast. The St. Simons Lighthouse stands on the sound’s north side. Although the channel has a determined depth of 32 feet, travel through the sound is complicated by treacherous shoals that have long defined this passage.
