Pioneer fathers James McAfee, Samuel McAfee, John Armstrong, Joseph Lyon, George McAfee, James McCoun, Wm. Armstrong, John McGee, Robert McAfee, James McCoun, Jr., James Buchanan, and George Buchanan heroically blazed the trail that made this neighborhood an outstanding, law-abiding community and established New Providence Church in 1784. They bequeathed a heritage of courage and faith that held the church steadfast and was powerfully felt in Kentucky Presbyterianism throughout the years. Daniel A. Brewer, a ruling elder, Theodocia Darland Brewer, Robert McAfee, and Priscilla Armstrong McAfee lived godly lives and were zealous of good works in New Providence Church.
