Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened in San Antonio on March 14, 1992, as the first business in the La Cantera development, transforming part of the former Redland Quarry into an amusement park with a striking below-grade layout shaped by its limestone walls. Originally built around live music and Texas-themed entertainment as much as rides, it later expanded under new ownership into a major Six Flags park with notable coasters, a renamed and enlarged water park, and award-winning shows. Since beginning year-round operation in 2019, it has continued to grow while retaining the quarry setting, theatrical emphasis, and Texas cultural identity that defined it from the start.
