Citizens of Monroe County dedicated this memorial in honor and recognition of those who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and in memory of those who gave their lives for the country, affirming that the price of freedom is high, that even in unpopular wars the country called and they proudly answered, and that they should not be forgotten. For the Korean War, 1950–1955, the dead named are Robert A. Green, Avery E. Burnett, Chester S. Hicks, James H. Raby, Parrion R. Harris, Walter B. Smith, Johnny S. Teague, Ross M. Walker, Wesley E. Tallent, William R. Sloan, Tubby S. Watson, and Allen L. Wright. For the Vietnam War, 1959–1975, the dead named are Sgt. Tommy Robert Wilson, Sgt. Carey Edwin Best, Sgt. Harold Eugene Lee, Pfc. Freddy Lynn Gray, Sgt. Larry Randall Arwood, Sp4 James Calvin Thomason, Sgt. Clarence Edward Watson, Cpl. James Edward Self, Pfc. Steve Julies Dockery, Sgt. James Arthur Borden, Sgt. Thomas Eugene Latham, Pfc. Winston Osborne Smith, Pfc. Ron Jackson Haynes, Sp4 Danny Ray Roberts, and Sgt. J. C. Davis.
