Trapper Peak is the highest summit in the Bitterroot Mountains, within the larger Bitterroot Range of western Montana. Located in the Central Bitterroot Range in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area of the Bitterroot National Forest, it rises more than 6,000 feet above the Bitterroot Valley. A trail from the end of a Forest Service road gains about 3,800 feet to reach the top, making the mountain a prominent destination for hikers. Its remote setting in protected wilderness highlights its rugged character and its importance as one of the defining peaks of the Bitterroot country.
