Como Peaks is a prominent mountain cluster in western Montana’s Bitterroot Range, within the Selway–Bitterroot Wilderness and Bitterroot National Forest. Known informally as the Three Sisters, it consists of three summits, with the West Peak the highest at 9,624 feet. Its steep relief lifts thousands of feet above nearby creeks and Lake Como, and water from its slopes ultimately reaches the Bitterroot River. The mountain’s name is linked to nearby Lake Como, named in the 1840s by Antonio Ravalli after Lake Como in Italy; Ravalli County also bears his name. At this elevation, Como Peaks has a harsh alpine subarctic climate with snowy winters and frequent summer thunderstorms.
