The M4 Sherman was one of the most famous tanks of World War II, used on all fronts as a versatile and reliable vehicle by the United States, Great Britain, Canada, French, South Africans, and Soviet armies, and it formed the backbone of various armored battalions and divisions. After World War II, the Sherman also fought in Korea and was used by Israeli Defense Forces for decades. Across the seven basic versions from M4 to M4A6, 49,234 were built in 11 plants from 1941-1946. Early models carried a 75mm main gun, while later versions used 75mm, 76mm, and 105mm guns, with hull armor ranging from 51 to 108 mm and turret armor from 76 to 91mm. This M4A3 Sherman, serial number #65944, entered service in 1943 and was manufactured by Chrysler Corporate (DATP). It weighed 31.25 tons, or 33.35 tons in combat load, had a crew of 5, measured 5.91 meters long, 2.99 meters wide, and 2.74 meters high, and was powered by a Ford GAA V8 gasoline engine producing 450 hp. Its maximum speed was 42 km/h with a range of 211 km. Its weapon system included an M3 75mm rifled cannon with storage for up to 97 rounds, including M61 armor piercing, M89 white phosphorous, and M48 high explosive ammunition, along with an M2HB .50 caliber machine gun with 500 rounds for the commander and two M1919 Browning .30-06 machine guns with 4,750 rounds for additional defense.
