Clifty Falls State Park near Madison, Indiana, is a long-established recreation area centered on the steep ravines, waterfalls, and canyon of Clifty Creek and Little Clifty Creek. Created on October 27, 1920, after Madison citizens donated 570 acres to the state at Richard Lieber’s suggestion, it later became one of the first four Indiana state parks to offer a naturalist program in 1927. The park’s dramatic terrain includes Clifty Creek Canyon, major falls on Clifty Creek, and additional waterfalls on Deans Branch and Hoffman Branch. Known especially for hiking, it has ten trails, an overlook to the main falls, an inn, and a campground.
