In Strawtown's early Native American communities, much of day-to-day living took place outside the home, but the family home still played an important role. Families resided in these homes, and many food items and personal belongings were kept inside. Archaeological investigations have found features such as smudge pits, cooking hearths, and storage pits inside single-family domestic structures.
