The original Sverdrup Lutheran Church was built on this site in 1908. On March 6, 1876, seven men of Lutheran heritage acted on their conviction that their faith needed the strengthening help of an organized church in order to grow, and the Town of Normans Menighed came into being. The first congregation had only twelve members, and seven of them signed the original constitution. When that constitution was printed in 1879, the name was officially changed to Sverdrup Evangelical Lutheran Congregation. The members met in a private home, and the original articles of incorporation were recorded in 1892.
