Florence Lake National Wildlife Refuge
Nature
Florence Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Burleigh County, North Dakota, protects 1,888 acres of mixed habitat, including nearly 1,000 acres of virgin native mixed-grass prairie and a 132-acre lake. The combination of open grassland and wetland makes it especially important for grassland birds, including passerines sought by birders visiting the region. Its high-quality prairie and place within a broader system of protected lands in central North Dakota give it significance as both wildlife habitat and part of a larger conservation network administered by Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
