Mark Randall Taylor, age 20, was killed in action on June 2, 1971, in Thua Thiên, South Vietnam. In the morning hours, U.S. Army scout dog handler Mark Randall Taylor and his loyal U.S. Army scout dog Krieger (65M8) were conducting a scouting patrol to detect a hidden enemy force of Communist North Vietnamese soldiers suspected of concealing themselves in heavy jungle vegetation while waiting to ambush nearby U.S. soldiers. When the dog team detected them, the enemy opened fire. Mark Taylor was killed, and scout dog Krieger died protecting and shielding his fallen handler. Bravery, loyalty, and sacrifice are forever remembered and forever honored.
