In the summer of 1877, Abraham Powell built the first cabin in this valley and the first cabin built in Price. The site of that cabin is about 1000 ft. west of this spot. An original marker for the site had been at 600 South Carbon Avenue and was erected in November 1936 by Explorer Troop #284, with Wm Campbell as SM. In December 22, 2011, during the Price Centennial of 1911–2011, Vincent Paul Anella Troop 296 Eagle Scout Project reestablished recognition of the site, with Chase Greenhalgh as Scoutmaster, and the original marker was contained within the new marker.
