Elk Mountain is a 7,835-foot peak in Flathead County, Montana, at the southern tip of Glacier National Park. Though moderate in height for the Rockies, it rises abruptly above nearby valleys, especially on its northwest face above Ole Creek, and stands near Marias Pass, U.S. Highway 2, and the BNSF Hi-Line. Its runoff feeds Autumn and Ole Creeks, tributaries of the Middle Fork Flathead River. The mountain consists of sedimentary rock from the Precambrian through the Jurassic and was shaped by the Lewis Overthrust. Named by 1914 and officially adopted in 1929, its summit later held a fire lookout used until 1963.
