Bridgehampton honored the patriotic spirit of its people and the sacrificing service of its soldiers and sailors who preserved the Union, one country, and one flag. In 1910, on the 250th anniversary of the settlement of Bridgehampton, descendants and friends of the men and women who settled there erected a stone on July 4 as a witness and appeal, commemorating the sturdy ancestry that founded, defended, served, and uplifted the community.
