Established in the early 1800’s as Mt. Pleasant Burying Ground, Wolf River Cemetery contains approximately 600 burials. Its oldest known grave is that of Charles Paul, dated 1826. Conrad “Coonrod” Pile, the first settler of Wolf River, is buried there in an unusual above-ground grave, and Sgt. Alvin C. York, the most decorated soldier of World War I and a descendant of the valley’s first settler, is also buried there.
