In 1934 the government chose this 3,410-acre site, previously dairy farms, for one of the nation's three Greenbelt Communities. It was selected for its gentle hills, thick woods, and clean ponds. Greendale has been called one of the prettiest villages in all the Midwest, and many visitors say it looks like a Norman Rockwell town.
