Bluestem State Recreation Area is a state park in southeastern Nebraska built around the 325-acre Bluestem Reservoir, about 2.5 miles west of Sprague and roughly 18 miles south of the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. Managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, it serves as a destination for boating, fishing, camping, and swimming. Its reservoir is stocked for anglers with species such as largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, walleye, and crappies, and the park also provides 19 primitive campsites for visitors.
