Nature
Loantaka Brook Reservation is a 570-acre public park and nature reserve in Morris County, New Jersey, stretching along Loantaka Brook with about five miles of trails for jogging, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Its landscape reflects a much longer human story, from Munsee Lenape life in the Morristown area around 1000 and within Lenapehoking by about 1500 to forced removals beginning in 1757. Part of the valley also saw George Washington’s troops camp there from January to May 1777. The modern park was assembled in the 20th century through major land donations and officially entered service in 1957, later adding amenities, community events, and active ecological management.
