Morristown, New Jersey, played a crucial role during the American Revolution. The Ford Mansion served as George Washington’s headquarters from December 1779 until June 1780. Jockey Hollow and the New Jersey Brigade area were places where 10,000 to 13,000 troops encamped from 1779 to 1780, and Fort Nonsense was the site of the fortification from the 1777 encampment. On December 16, 1779, at headquarters in Morristown, George Washington wrote to the governors of five states that the army’s situation with respect to supplies was beyond description alarming.
