Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park is a 9,515-acre preserve in east Orange County, Florida, along the Econlockhatchee River, where flatwoods, open prairie, creeks, and forested hammocks support diverse wildlife. Deer, turkey, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, bobcats, river otters, gopher tortoises, indigo snakes, and downy woodpeckers live here, and the area also provides habitat for a small number of breeding pairs of the threatened red-cockaded woodpecker. Human use stretches back thousands of years, with Timucua mounds and ancient campsites, later followed by settlement routes and early twentieth-century railroad beds for timber and turpentine.
