Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area protects 30,701 acres along the St. Johns River east of Orlando in Christmas, Florida, preserving a large riverine landscape for both conservation and recreation. Its habitats include old-growth floodplain swamp, mesic flatwoods, and hydric hammock, as well as rare and endangered plants that preserve remnants of older Florida ecosystems. The area supports a wide range of wildlife, including songbirds, waterfowl, bald eagles, deer, bobcat, otter, alligators, and turtles. Public uses include hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, nature study, primitive backpack camping, and access to more than fifty miles of trails and the river.
