Five men lost their lives building the Mackinac Bridge: Albert B. Abbott, a laborer; Jack C. Baker, an ironworker; Robert Koppen, an ironworker; James R. LeSarge, an ironworker; and Frank Pepper, a diver. The bridge was built by Iron Workers Local 8, Iron Workers Local 25, Iron Workers Local 340, and the American Bridge Company.
