The Plazas / Las Plazas
History
9
The plazas integrated into this pueblo’s architectural design were the focus of many daily activities year round. Near the room blocks were probably pens for turkeys kept as a source of feathers and food for households. Dogs ran loose, searched for scraps of food, and played with children tending to their chores. Women ground corn and cooked under ramadas that shaded them from the sun. Men and women wove and made pottery needed for everyday and ceremonial use. They also replastered walls with mud to deter erosion from the rains.
