The Indian Ambassadors Road turned east near here over the hills to the Tulpehocken Valley. It was used by Iroquois chiefs from Onondaga, now Syracuse, carrying peace wampum from the "Fire that Never Dies" to Philadelphia. Shickellamy often traveled this route.
