Rockwell Mound is a prehistoric archaeological site in Havana, Illinois, in Rockwell Park near the Illinois River. Dating to around AD 200, it is one of the largest earthen mounds ever built in the Illinois River basin, covering nearly 2 acres and rising about 12 feet high. Its size reflects the substantial labor required to create it. The mound lies about 6 miles from Dickson Mounds, another nationally recognized archaeological site, and stands as an important surviving monument to the region’s ancient past. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987, with its location treated as address restricted because of its sensitivity.
