The Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield, built in 1971 in Fairfield’s Greenfield Hill area, is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary focused on birds, their behavior, and environmental education. Its facilities include classrooms, live animals, natural history exhibits, a nature library, a solar greenhouse, and a gift shop. Outside, it houses non-releasable rescued birds of prey such as owls, hawks, peregrine falcons, and a turkey vulture. The center also manages the 152-acre Roy and Margot Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary, where 7 miles of trails cross varied habitats and include accessible and interpretive features. It serves youth, school, Scout, and community groups through programs, camps, and classes.
