Mount Pleasant Episcopal Cemetery was first established in 1841 and contains 110 known graves along with several unknown or unmarked graves. Members of both the Methodist Episcopal Church, from 1841 to 1960, and the Church of Christ, from 1961 to 1996, are buried here. The cemetery reflects a Victorian-era change in rural perceptions of death and mourning, expressed through ornate carvings and epitaphs on the graves of loved ones. Among those buried here are Civil War soldiers Edward Talley, who served in the Siege of Petersburg, Wellington Lloyd, who served in the Battle of Gettysburg, and William Williams, who served in the Battle of Gettysburg. A number of graves also belong to influential community members whose names remain visible throughout the surrounding area.
