The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature in Bradenton, Florida, traces the story of Florida’s Gulf Coast from prehistory to the present through natural and cultural history exhibitions, a planetarium, and a manatee rehabilitation habitat. Founded in 1946 and opened in 1947, it grew from the archaeological collection of Montague Tallant, whose finds remain central to its holdings. After moving to a larger site in 1966, it expanded its manatee and astronomy facilities and later added the Spanish Plaza. Its manatee program became especially prominent through Snooty and through rehabilitation work begun in the late 1990s. Renamed in 2019, it remains a leading regional cultural institution.
