Two Harbors Light, overlooking Agate Bay on Lake Superior, is Minnesota’s oldest operating lighthouse. Built in 1891 and first lit on April 14, 1892, it guided ships into a harbor that became a major iron ore shipping point for the Mesabi Range. The red-brick tower and station were designed for constant operation and safety, with multiple keepers maintaining the light daily. Its original fourth-order Fresnel lens was removed in 1969, later returned in 2015, and the light continued operating through later equipment changes. Now owned and operated by the Lake County Historical Society, it remains an active navigational aid and a preserved historic site open to visitors.
