Allamuchy Mountain
Nature
Allamuchy Mountain is a ridge in northwestern New Jersey spanning Sussex and Warren counties, with its highest point at 1,222 feet in Byram Township and extensions into Allamuchy and Green townships. Part of the New York–New Jersey Highlands' Reading Prong, it overlooks the Musconetcong River and helps divide the Musconetcong and Pequest river valleys. An 1834 reference to “Alamuche Mountain” shows it was long recognized as a defining feature of the local landscape. Today, parts of the ridge lie within Allamuchy Mountain State Park, reflecting its continuing importance as both a prominent landform and a preserved stretch of northern New Jersey upland country.
