Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Allamuchy and Byram townships spans 2,440 acres along the Musconetcong River in New Jersey’s Allamuchy Mountain region. Managed by the state’s Division of Parks and Forestry, it is known for extensive trails, mixed oak and hardwood forests, maintained fields, and varied stages of ecological succession. Part of the park was formerly the Rutherfurd-Stuyvesant Estate, a 1700s property later divided by Route 80 before its lands were added to the park in the 1970s. The area also connects to nearby Waterloo Village and the Sussex Branch Trail, tying its natural landscape to the region’s farming, transportation, and settlement history.
