The Flight of the Phoenix Aviation Museum at Gilmer Municipal Airport in Gilmer, Texas, was founded in 1994 by Steve Dean of Dean Lumber Company. It began in a 6,000-square-foot hangar built chiefly to house company aircraft and showcase the uses of the firm’s lumber products. The museum later expanded with significant aircraft and exhibits, including a T-37 added in 2010 and an L-26C, once used as an Air Force One, flown there in 2013. Its collection also includes a Link Trainer. Beyond preserving aviation history, it serves as a community venue, hosting an annual Veterans Day airshow and offering rides in three aircraft.
