At the historic site of Freedonia, the first session of the Bossier Parish court was held on September 25, 1843, with Judge W.K. Beck presiding. The site was later named Society Hill and then Bellevue. The first Police Jury meeting was held about two miles northeast at the site of Bodcau Bayou Dam.
