Walworth County, South Dakota honors veterans, men and women, in peace and war, declaring that their memories will never die and praising their fight for the honor of the country and the promise of its dreams. The memorial was sponsored by Frederick Schauer Legion Post #100 of Shelby, Parker Browcer Legion Post #4 of Mobridge, Laverne Bauer Legion Post #275 of Java, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Selby-Java Post #5094 and Mobridge Post #2741. It was dedicated on May 27, 2002, in honor of those who served, in tribute to those who perished, and in gratitude to those now serving.
