Old Wintonbury Cemetery
History
3
Old Wintonbury Cemetery is linked to the founders and descendants of ancient Wintonbury, including four generations of ancestors of Mrs. Alice Bidwell Francis and Miss Caroline Roberts who were buried there, all direct descendants of John Bidwell, an original settler of Hartford. The gateway and fence were erected in their memory through the generosity of Francis and Roberts. The parish of Win-Ton-Bury was established in October 1736 within the towns of Windsor, Farmington, and Simsbury, from which it derived its name, and it was incorporated as a town by act of legislature in May 1936, when its name was changed to Bloomfield. Care of the old burying ground was vested in the Wintonbury Cemetery Association, incorporated November 6, 1925.
