When the Jesuits opened Alma College in 1934, they already had nearly 15,000 books that needed a home, and this library was promoted as a state-of-the-art, fireproof building intended to keep even rare tomes safe. To protect the building, Midpen refurbished the original shingle siding, replaced the roof with composite material, and installed special window screens to keep animals out while allowing air circulation inside.
