El Sereno Open Space Preserve
Nature
El Sereno Open Space Preserve protects the peak and slopes of 2,580-foot El Sereno mountain in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Santa Clara County, near Monte Sereno and opposite El Sombroso across Los Gatos. Its setting is geologically active, with the San Andreas Fault south of the mountain, the Berrocal fault zone beneath its northern slope, and another small fault in a nearby valley. The mountain’s northern slope forms the headwaters of San Tomas Aquino Creek. From higher ground, it offers broad views over Silicon Valley, Los Gatos, Lexington Reservoir, and, on clear days, the Monterey Peninsula. The preserve also provides linked trails and protected cougar habitat near the urban edge.
