The Wilbur D. May Center in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno combines a museum and an arboretum and botanical garden shaped by the life and interests of Wilbur D. May. A Reno resident from 1936 until 1982, May was a rancher, pilot, artist, philanthropist, and world traveler whose collections from more than 40 trips form the museum’s core, alongside recreated rooms from his Double Diamond Ranch. The 13-acre garden demonstrates what can grow in a harsh high-desert transition zone between the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin Desert, with themed plantings, Evans Creek running through the grounds, and year-round public access.
