Mount Hooper is a high Sierra Nevada summit in northern California, within the John Muir Wilderness and Sierra National Forest, rising steeply above Florence Lake and the San Joaquin River watershed. The John Muir Trail crosses its east slope, giving relatively easy access to one of the region’s higher peaks. Though ranked the 326th-highest summit in California, its dramatic relief makes it stand out prominently. R. B. Marshall of the United States Geological Survey named it, likely during surveys from 1907 to 1909, and the name was officially adopted in 1911 to honor Major William Burchell Hooper. Its first recorded ascent came in 1929.
