Danby's first hotel, built by David Kelley, stood on this corner until it was destroyed by fire. In addition to accommodating travelers and housing Danby's first post office, it was known for its ballroom, where political meetings and high-toned affairs were held, and for its veranda, whose proximity to the town pump and train depot made it a prime place for locals to watch the sagas of village life.
