The Hocking Canal passed a series of landmarks in and around Logan, Haydenville, and Nelsonville, including Sheep Pen Lock; an old tavern at Gallagher Avenue and Main Street that once served canal traffic; the route behind King Kitchen and Bath, formerly the Logan Woollen Mill, and west of Mennel Milling, formerly Keynes Flour Mill, which was built in 1855; a well-preserved culvert foundation at Old Town Creek Park where the canal crossed Old Town Creek; Wright's Lock near Haydenville; and Johnny Appleseed Lock. In Haydenville, distinctive houses of glazed brick, block, and tile were built in the 1870s-1890s from locally manufactured materials. Other canal remnants are either on private land or no longer recognizable, and several canals and locks were filled in for safety or to prevent stagnant water from collecting. The old canal path runs between current US 33 and the train tracks between Haydenville and Nelsonville.
