Courthouse Cast Iron Drinking Fountain
History
1
A cast iron drinking fountain stood on the east side of the Bedford Limestone Courthouse about thirty feet from the intersection of Main and Broadway streets. Historians estimate it was made in the 1800's, about the time the Bedford Limestone Courthouse was built in 1894. The fountain included a trough from which horses could drink, and generations of residents and visitors remembered cooling off with a splash of Monticello water from it.
