Northstar California
Nature
Northstar California is a major Lake Tahoe destination resort near the lake’s northwest shore, combining a large ski mountain with a planned village and four-season recreation. Developed from a former Douglas Lumber Company property after Fibreboard acquired the land in 1967, it opened in December 1972 as Northstar-at-Tahoe. The resort spans 3,170 acres with a 2,280-foot vertical drop, 19 lifts, and a strong emphasis on intermediate skiing, grooming, and terrain parks. It also includes cross-country skiing, lodging, an ice-skating-centered village, a golf course, and a mountain bike park. Ownership later changed several times, while operations passed to Vail Resorts in 2010.
